Review: Barons de Rothschild-Lafite Reserve Speciale Bordeaux 2010

on

Friday evening I decided to stop by and pick up a chilled bottle of white wine on my way home. I had a very successful day at the office and figured I might as well treat myself with nice glass of wine and kick back for the evening.

I wanted a white wine, something already chilled. Going through the cooler at my local wine store, I spotted a bottle of Barons de Rothschild-Lafite Reserve Speciale Bordeaux 2010. Normally you associate Bordeaux’s being red but yes there are white ones too. I’m familiar with Barons de Rothschild as I have a vintage red waiting to be opened. Just  waiting for the right time or right someone. 😉

At first you notice the pale golden-yellow color glistening through the bottle with a very slight hint of green. I’m a creative designer so I notice subtle tones when it comes to color. With a nice swirl of the glass, the citrus comes alive with grapefruit and lime as you inhale the fresh aromatic flavors. This wine is has a light and fresh flavor, nothing harsh or complex. It is perfect for that hot summer evening or for those that like it light and airy.

For those who do not like whites because of the ‘Oak-Headache’, this White Bordeaux will leave you headache-free. At least for me it did.

It’s a nice wine to pair with an array of seafood dishes including oysters. Perfect if you want to keep it light for a brunch or simple lunch.

This Bordeaux won’t be on my radar when I stop by my local wine store for a white, but if I’m with someone who isn’t much of a wine drinker … I will know which one to take home. This one.
